EXPERIENCE:

  • Removed cross direction moisture streak on paper with annual saving of $1m. This problem existed for many years prior to its removal.
  • Identified annual fibre savings of $0.75M for Kimberley Clarke Australia's pulp mill.
  • Helped Norske Skog's Tasmanian Boyer PM #2 in improving drying efficiency resulting in a 15 m/min increase in machine speed (equivalent to $0.75M increase in production).
  • Demonstrated by pilot scale investigation annual fibre recovery of $1.0 m for AP Maryvale
  • Demonstrated by pilot scale investigation and subsequent paper machine production trials improvement in product quality, replacement of virgin fibre and savings in steam usage (close to $4.5M/year) with a ROI of 150%.
  • Hydroliquefaction of black and brown coal: experimental and kinetic modelling.
  • Coal-oil suspension rheology at high temperature and high pressure.
  • Upgrading of Secondary Fibre - deinking of Mixed Office Waste (MOW).
  • Benchmarking and optimisation - rheology and mixing characteristics of coating slurry.
  • Effluent treatment: modelling of aeration and polishing basins.
  • Catalytic removal of odorous Total Residual Sulfur.
  • Development of PC-based software for on-line data acquisition.
  • Polymer melt rheology using twin-screw extruder/torque rheometer.
  • Worked on all paper machines of Amcor/Australian Paper and most of Norske Skog.
  • Set up pilot scale research facility at Amcor Research and Technology Centre to simulate full processing of waste paper (both brown and white fibre), stock approach system, deinking, refining and papermaking.
  • Established inadequate design of coating blender impeller with subsequent mill's acceptances of the system designed that resulted reduction in blending time.
  • Extensive computer programming in FORTRAN, BASIC, C, Pascal and COBOL.
